Hij wilt de kettingreactie die in gang gezet wordt, tonen en op de voorgrond plaatsen. Hij is daarbij niet geïnteresseerd in de kleine rimpels in de plas, maar eerder in de reikwijdte van de grotere golven verder weg van het epicentrum. De reeks “Side Effects” omvat 10 schilderijen die gemaakt worden in de kantlijn van groter werk uit andere themareeksen. De kunstenaar werkt tijdens de creatie van een groter figuratief schilderij ook telkens aan een kleiner abstract schilderij. Dit gebeurt simultaan. Daardoor baseert hij zich voor dit parallelle schilderij op de tinten en sferen die hij nastreeft in het grotere werk. Toch blijkt het resulterend werk veelal radicaal verschillend. De schilderijen uit de reeks “Side Effects” zijn gelaagd, voorzien van sterkere kleuraccenten, opgebouwd in een pasteuze massa, laag over laag.
