Although Lim Ji Young won the first prize in the prestigious competition for violin players in Brussels, her victory was overshadowed due to an unfortunate misunderstanding: another finalist - with a similar name - claimed the victory when she thought she heard her own name. The portrait itself captures that tipping point of consciousness between winning and loosing.
For Lim Ji Young, this must be a broken moment forever, a win that will never feel like a victory.

If first place is your only ambition, you have to embrace your disappointments too.
With more than 140 podium places of which 100 in the premium class and being a 3 times world champion, Dani Pedrosa is one of the most successful motorcycle racers ever. Yet during the sports interviews, I have seen more disappointments from him than glory moments.
"The Racer" shows us the perfectionist, who is only happy when all aspects come together in the Win. All other results are merely statistics. Without the sponsors, the star status is also removed and only the persona itself remains.

When your child ends up being a criminal or a terrorist, how would you feel? I guess no mother has the ambition to raise her children to immoral standards. It's all about letting go, releasing control.
If children take the wrong turn, the mother is left behind in disappointment. She will question her educational beliefs.
However, it is not about her and her what-ifs.
Each child choses his own path and with this, imposes his choices on his mothers heart.

Disappointment, not a feeling that fills you with pride, nor one that you want to show off with. Yet, it's very human and even the best of us suffer from disappointment from time to time.
This series shows a few great people who have achieved great things but have experienced some very dark moments. Each of them are captured in that moment where disappointment overwhelms them. Yet, one second later, they stand up with pride.
